Personality Type? Do You Know Yours?

What Happens When Our Mindset is Fear?

A great way to get motivated is to find out your personality type. One way to do that is to take a personality test such as the one you can find on This test is based on the Myers-Briggs test. If you are honest with your answers, they are very accurate, and useful tools that can help you make changes to improve your life and business.

The key to this test is to give answers that are true and accurate, rather than what you wish was true. There are no “correct” answers. You don’t need to try to beat the test. Be truthful, and you’ll find out what your personality is like so that you can work with your strengths and improve your weaknesses.

In addition, if you took the test before, don’t expect to get the same answer every time. People change and grow over time so anytime you’re experiencing issues with motivation consider taking the test again and reading the results.

You can purchase an in-depth analysis or you can get a lot from the free test. The important thing is to answer the questions as truthfully as your subconscious will allow, and then to use the information to help you gain insight into your own personality.

You can also use these tests to help you understand your co-workers, family, and others who are willing to share to help you work better together in a supportive environment.

Once you know your personality, make it a priority to set up an environment that encourages you to develop successfully. With or without the test if you do these things you’ll be more motivated and thus experience more success.

  • Create a Supportive Environment – The people, tools, and atmosphere around you need to be supportive in your perception. It doesn’t matter if your boss thinks they’re supportive, but you feel that they’re not. If you feel unsupported, you’re not going to be able to be as creative and successful as you could be otherwise.
  • Be Accountable for Your Actions – Hire someone or ask someone in your life now to hold you accountable for your actions. People who have accountability partners or coaches to help them see their plan through to fruition will experience a lot more success in life.
  • Decide When and Where You’ll “DO” – Whatever it is, you need to know the when, what, why, and how of what you’ll do. If you have all that decided it’s going to be a lot easier to commit and follow through with your plan.
  • Commit to a Plan – When you decide to create a plan and commit to it, you’ll see results a lot sooner than someone who is acting without a plan in place regardless of motivation. You can be completely unmotivated but follow through with your plan anyway. A great way to help your plan materialize is to create a checklist so that you can go through it each day and mark off what you’ve achieved.
  • Start Sooner Rather Than Later – For example, let’s say you want to lose weight and get healthy. Don’t wait until Friday or Monday to start. Instead, start now. The sooner you start the sooner your brain will catch up with your actions and accept that this is your new way of doing things.

Really Understanding Motivation, Will Help You Breakthrough Your Blocks!

Understanding motivation will help you breakthrough any limits or blocks you may have to success. Your only limit is you!

You know that person. You know the one. They’ve got their stuff all together. They’re out there speaking up, breaking glass ceilings, and are the doers. They simply get stuff done. They are successful. The Next Door Millionaire, The Silent Millionaire and the Boastful Ones, too, nothing stops them. They get it done!

Have you wondered how they find their motivation? Do you know why they’re motivated to implement and succeed while you’re blocked? Do you know what they went through to get to where they are?

Over the next 4 blog posts, let’s look at potential motivational blocks the average person experiences, and then we’ll discover ways to get through them. First, let’s consider the study of motivation and motivational theory.

What is motivation?

Old School Motivational Theory

It can help to look at some research from the study of motivational theory. We can look at the work of several scientists from the past that chose to study human motivational theory. Understanding the research on motivation can help you to understand your life and actions better. When you understand this scientific work and relate it to yourself, you’ll create a situation where you understand how motivation works for you and how to get motivated any time you need it.

There are essentially four basic thoughts regarding motivation.

  1. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
  2. Herzberg’s Dual-Factor Theory
  3. McClelland’s “The Need for Achievement”
  4. Vroom’s Expectancy Theory of Motivation

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Abraham Maslow created a motivation model that states individuals are motivated by different types of needs depending on how pressing they are. For example, before one can worry about their self-esteem or do what they love they must first satisfy the basic needs of hunger, safety, and affection.

In other words, if you’re struggling to live safely, and keep food on the table, it’s going to be very hard for you to feel successful or reach for more because you’re just scrapping at the bottom. It’s not easy to save for a rainy day if every day there is a storm. It’s important to be able to differentiate needs vs. wants and to understand where you are on the spectrum.

Herzberg’s Dual-Factor Theory

This theory says there are two factors in the workplace and life that cause you to be satisfied or dissatisfied and that each is completely independent of each other. For example, if you have a job that makes you feel useful, your employer is kind and appreciates you, but you aren’t paid much, you can still be satisfied. However, you could make a ton of money, be treated poorly and be miserable. Money doesn’t always equate to success, depending upon the situation. That’s why it’s important to define what success means to you.

McClelland’s “The Need for Achievement”

According to McClelland, every individual has a unique need for achievement. The reward should be structured for the individual. Not everyone has a need to be publicly recognized, for example. For some, knowing that if they succeeded, they would be in the public eye (even just among co-workers) would lower their motivation to achieve.

He also believed that everyone has different needs and wants based on where they are in life, similar to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. However, McClelland believed that we all have three motivators in life: The need for achievement, the need for affiliation and the need for power. We are usually dominant in only one of these areas and that drives us. For example, if you are “affiliation” dominant, you want to belong to the group, be liked, prefer collaboration, and don’t like uncertainty or high-risk situations.

Vroom’s Expectancy Theory of Motivation

Vroom believed that every human wants to minimize pain and maximize pleasure and that increased effort will lead to increased performance and thus more motivation because the more you experience success the more you want success. But, not everyone has the right skills, resources, or support in life to experience these things. Therefore, the ability to identify what is missing and if they can fill that missing piece of the puzzle, it will create more success and thus more motivation.

The lesson is that you must know what works for you, why it works for you, and how to repeat it when you need it to build more motivation toward reaching your goals and experiencing success. Discovering the roadblocks, you set up for yourself, or that another person has placed in your path, and how to overcome them will set you up for the success you desire.

You can read a lot more about these motivational theories on this Lecture from Stuart-Kotze in the UK.

Most important is to remember you are unique and your motivation and blocks are unique. Learn as much as you can about motivation and about YOU for SUCCESS!

Dump It All! Get Your Email Inbox Organized.

A disorganized, overflowing email inbox can be a daunting obstacle to overcome and needs to be organized. Spam and junk email quickly adds up to a constant stream of distracting correspondence. This clutter can make you crazy, less productive, especially if email is a major part of your job.

Not only that – important messages can end up getting lost among all of the others. So, let it all go, except for your most important connections!

Here are a few suggestions for clearing out your inbox and for keeping all of your important email organized.

Unsubscribe from Junk Mail

It is much easier to delete a junk message in your inbox than it is to unsubscribe from recurring correspondence. But, does this save you time in the long run? It may take a minute or two, but look into removing yourself from the mailing lists of sites that frequently send unwanted messages.

This will keep junk messages from showing up in your inbox to begin with and save you the trouble of getting rid of them. Unsubscribe 3 a day, each day and soon, you will have rid yourself of all that unwanted correspondence. Or, use a free service like to mass unsubscribe.

Folders and Categories

Most email services allow you to create folders within your inbox. By sorting messages into different files, groups or categories, you can easily find the messages you need when you need them. Don’t be afraid of making too many folders. If you use email for work, several folders based on subject will be more helpful than a single work folder. Some mail services can automatically sort messages into different folders based on things like who they are from.

Tags and Labels

While folders are an effective tool for keeping your incoming messages organized, they are less helpful in the case of messages that fit into several categories. By applying tags to messages, you can mark them so that they can be sorted later. Multiple tags can be applied to a single message, which allows them to be sorted differently depending on the situation.

Setting Up Filters

Some email services allow you to set up filters which tell your email service to treat certain messages a certain way. For example, if a particularly difficult junk mailer won’t remove you from their mailing list, you can set up a filter that automatically removes all mail from that sender to the trash. Filters are also useful for keeping your folders organized, by automatically sending messages containing certain words or phrases to a specific folder.

Search Your Email

Your email has a handy search engine tool that you can use to quickly find email in your inbox. The search tool allows you to easily find emails from a specific person or company, messages sent to a specific email address, or emails containing certain words. This is especially useful if you need to reference an old email that has been lost in your inbox.

Keep Things Updated

No matter what tools you use to clean up your inbox, it’s important to keep things organized to avoid another mess from forming. If you set up filters, many of your messages will be organized automatically. Make sure to update your filing system as needed and apply new filters to messages that show up in your inbox. Try to deal with incoming mail as soon as you receive it, rather than waiting for it to build up.

Cleaning up your inbox will save you time, both at work and at home. Most email services offer tools like the ones described that you can use to do much of the work for you. Setting these tools up may take some time, but the time and effort an organized inbox will save you is worth it.

The Importance of Routines for Success!

It is so important to have routines for your business and your life, if you want easy success.

Have you noticed that it gets harder to make decisions toward the end of the day? You’re too tired to figure out what to have for dinner or what to watch on TV. That’s because, we all have a finite amount of decisions that we can make in any one day. Routines can help!

Knowing that helps us prioritize. We can cut out a lot of decision making by implementing routines. That way we save our decision making for the important stuff. It also frees brain space for more creative and productive thinking. Routines are a great strategy. Routines help simplify our lives. A lot of our daily stress is reduced with routines.

Chances are you already have a morning routine. You get up, you stretch, get your coffee or check email. Maybe you have a high protein shake before heading into the shower. Let’s expand on that.

If you create a “uniform” for yourself or plan your outfits a week in advance, you don’t even have to think about what to wear. You just grab a pair of pants and a shirt, or a skirt, tights and sweater and off you go. Mark Zuckerberg, creator of Facebook is notorious for wearing the same t-shirt and jeans every day.

Implement some routines into your workday wherever possible. Meal planning helps you figure out what meals to fix and eat. A cleaning schedule makes sure you stay on track with your household chores without you having to spend any valuable decision-making skills in the process.

Wrap your day up with a bedtime routine that not only helps when you’re too tired to make smart choices, it also helps you fall asleep more easily. What works for your toddler works for you as well. Create your own sleep routine.

Come up with a few calming things that help you slow down and get ready for sleep. Read a book, listen to some music or wind down with a cup of herbal tea.

Sit down with a pen and piece of paper and think about what parts of your day and week you can turn into routines. Write the down and create daily to-do lists for yourself until you’ve established these new routines.

Spending a little bit of time creating routines will make your day run a lot smoother. You might just find yourself less stressed and get more done during your productive hours. And that’s a wonderful thing. It allows you to save plenty of decision making for the fun stuff like figuring out what hike to go on, what movie to watch or what card game to play.
